    Leap & Twirl Toddlers

    AGE 2

    Toddlers develop physical, social and creative skills in this fun-filled movement class! Dancers participate with their grown-up.

  • Pre-Primary Ballet

    AGES 3 - 4

    A first introduction for ballet for preschoolers. Dancers learn age and developmentally appropriate steps while exercising their creativity and making friends.

    Primary Ballet

    AGES 5 - 7

    This level emphasizes rhythm, coordination and placement, so that students graduate from Primary with an understanding of spatial awareness, correct alignment, teamwork, focus, along with an appreciation for dance and their bodies. No prior experience needed.

    Ballet 1

    AGES 7 - 9

    Students learn and continue to develop poise, athleticism and artistry with classical ballet! This level is appropriate for absolute beginners, as well as students who completed the primary level.

    Ballet 2 -3

    AGES 8 - 12

    Students continue developing a strong foundation of ballet technique, emphasizing more musicality, dynamics and performance quality. Attendance twice per week is required to ensure healthy, successful development.

    Ballet 4 & 5

    AGES 10+

    These levels are for intermediate to advanced students who have demonstrated mastery of the previous levels. Three technique classes per week are required for Ballet 5, in addition to pointe (for approved students). In these levels, students prepare for pre-professional levels of training in a supportive, accepting environment.

  • Modern Dance

    Modern Dance

    AGES 8+

    Dancers explore the full capacity of human movement and expression in our modern program. Along with formal steps, students learn improvisation and are encouraged to experiment with different movement concepts, dynamics and patterns. Dancers must be enrolled in ballet to take modern, or receive approval from the director.

  • Broadway Jazz

    Broadway Jazz

    Ages 8+

    Channel your inner Broadway star! Dancers learn and practice jazz dance techniques and learn choreography inspired by Broadway musicals. We also learn about Broadway history and choreographers, like Jack Cole, Bob Fosse and Susan Stroman.

FAQs

  • Our current season runs Sept. 5, 2023 - June 1, 2024. New students are welcome all the time!

  • Sarah will make a recommendation based on your dancer’s age, level of interest and prior experience. Complete the enrollment form or contact us for specific requests.

  • Each class has a uniform that includes a leotard (or leotard dress), tights and dance slippers. We will send you the full list for your specific class when you enroll!

  • Visit our enrollment page to register online. You can also call us at (585) 237-8815 to enroll by phone or receive more information.

  • Dancers in all levels will be invited to participate in a concert at the end of the season, usually in June.

    Students in level 1 and older will be invited to participate in children’s roles in The Nutcracker with rehearsals and performances in December.

    The Student company performs featured roles in Nutcracker as well as the spring ballet and other volunteer performances throughout the year.

  • Tuition is dependent on class style, length and number of times it meets per week. Fill out our new student interest form to receive a full list of current rates.

    We also offer installment plans and financial assistance to ensure no one is turned away based on financial circumstances. Fundraising options and merit based scholarships are available for most dancers on a first come basis.

Student Company

The student company at Genesee Dance Theatre gives dancers more opportunities to perform throughout the season and helps us bring live dance productions  to our community! Company members are selected by invitation and must be enrolled in Ballet 3 or higher throughout the school year. If you are interested in bringing our student company to perform at your event, please send us an email!
